Dan Holmes is a member of the Board of the Pootatuck Watershed Association. The mission of the Association is to educate the public about drinking water and the aquifer, to do research to make sure the water quality is good, finds the problem areas, and works to protect the drinking water.

The Sustainable Energy Commission of Newtown, CT is focused on reducing the town's dependency on non-renewable, resource depleting, costly energy. Dan Holmes is a committee member. The goal of the commission is to help Newtown become a state leader in reducing its carbon footprint and to be a good steward of the environment. |

Now in its fifth year, the primary mission of the Newtown Earth Day Festival is to foster education and awareness of environmental stewardship through project participation and collaboration with local associations. Held annually in April, this community event brings together schools, municipal and charitable organizations, sustainable vendors, and non-profits, in a synergistic celebration of good deeds for our space on the planet. Dan Holmes is a co-founder of this organization.

CT NOFA is a growing community of farmers, gardeners, land care professionals, and consumers that encourages a healthy relationship to the natural world. CT NOFA promotes methods of farming, gardening, and land care that respect biodiversity, soil, water, air, and the needs of furture generations through education, support, and advocacy. |

CNLA is the state trade association that represents Connecticut’s nurseries, garden centers, landscapers, nursery and perennial growers, and landscape designers. Dan Holmes currently serves as Chairman of the Recycling Committee that is advocating for the recycling of plastics used in the trade.
